FAQ

Do you have questions about Board Games Munich?
Here you will find the most important answers about us, our board game events and our WhatsApp community. 🎲🥨💜
Whether it is your first time or you want to learn more about us – here is all the important information at a glance.

About us

We are Board Games Munich e.V., a lively community of board game fans from Munich and the surrounding area. Our journey began in May 2022, and since then we have met regularly to play exciting board games.
With every event we grow – new locations and more and more members of a fantastic community are waiting for you! Whether you are just discovering the world of board games or are an experienced player: for us it is always about one thing – having fun playing and getting together with like-minded people.

Because board games are great!
There is nothing better than experiencing adventures in good company, plotting intrigues or solving puzzles together – without a screen in between. We are also firmly convinced that a well-played round of “Time’s Up” or “Herdentier” connects people better than any small talk.

We are an association because it brings many advantages for all of us! As Board Games Munich e.V. we can cover the costs of the venues for our regular meetups and take out insurance that protects us and you when using the rooms.
The association structure is also a solid basis for the technical costs – such as maintaining our website and using digital tools. It also helps us share organisational tasks fairly, so that nobody is responsible for everything alone.

Another important reason: we are aiming for non-profit status, to promote the cultural asset of games and to spread the joy of board games in public. That leaves more time for what we love: playing and exchanging ideas with like-minded people. 😊

Not at all!
We are a casual group that meets regularly to play board games together – without club politics and without fixed cliques.
Everyone who enjoys games is welcome! And don’t worry, there are always new faces at every meetup, so you will quickly find company. We play, chat and get to know each other through the games – there are no “beginner” or “pro” tables, just fun!

Board game meetups

There is something for every player’s heart – from relaxed family games where it is more about being together, to tricky strategy games that really make your brain work, to funny party games where laughter is guaranteed! And of course expert games for everyone who thinks a Lacerda is too simple or who wants something unusual like an 18xx game. Monopoly? Rather not. But for everything else – we’re in!

In our Excel list you can show interest in joining a particular game. Please note that this is not a binding registration, it only serves as a guide to see who is interested in which game. You can also enter game requests there to show which games you would like to play. Maybe someone in the community has it in their collection.

The Excel list is linked on the sign-up page under the respective event.

You will find all the important information about our events here when you click on the respective date. Sign-up always starts about 2 weeks before the event and works on a “first come, first served” basis, so being quick pays off. If you cannot make it after all, please cancel your registration so that someone from the waiting list can move up.

For direct exchange and current updates you can also join our WhatsApp community.

Yes, of course – the more the merrier!
But please sign up individually or together, so that we keep track and there is enough space for everyone. And don’t worry: new people are always warmly welcomed with us – even if they accidentally sabotage the “village” in Werewolf. 😉

A small contribution of between 2 and 5 euros is charged for the room rent – this way we can make sure the room is well equipped and we have enough space for everyone. The price is basically the entrance fee to a day full of fun and games, without sacrificing your entire Monopoly fortune.

Not necessarily, but the earlier you arrive, the easier it is to find a suitable game group. Especially if you are new, it can help to come on time – that way you can quickly get to know other players and join a round more easily. If you arrive later, you may have to wait a little until a seat is free. But don’t worry, everyone finds a place with us! We are an open group, and whoever asks politely is quickly taken into a round.

That depends on the location, but as a rule our meetups are well attended and it is never boring! If someone cancels or falls ill, people from the waiting list always move up. So don’t worry – you will find a meetup for sure!

You don’t know anyone? Then it is time to get to know us!
Just talk to people or look at which game looks exciting – the groups form all by themselves. Name tags are good for everyone, so grab our craft kit (masking tape + pen) or bring your own if you feel creative. That way you will not only get to know the game but a few new people as well. Everyone is welcome – you will quickly be part of a round, promised!

No, you don’t – but you may!
Most people bring their favourite games, so we often have 100+ games to choose from. You can also join an existing round spontaneously. But if you have a game you really want to play, feel free to bring it. Don’t worry: even without a game of your own you are always welcome with us.

Feel free to bring snacks and drinks! At most of our locations we offer soft drinks and coffee for a small contribution. In the evening we organise a pizza order together if hunger strikes. Cake, by the way, is always a welcome guest. 😉

WhatsApp community

Our WhatsApp community is the heart of our network – this is where we organise our meetups and offer different groups so you can connect better. Announcements, looking for players or flea market: you will find it all here.

Send us an email to kontakt@bgmuc.de, and we will add you. Once you are in the community, you can pick the groups that suit you.

Don’t worry: there is no flood of spam, and we make sure the groups stay friendly and organised.

A little tip: we still recommend muting most of the groups – unless you like your phone vibrating constantly because someone is arranging the “Agricola” table for Friday evening. 😉

There are different groups in our WhatsApp community – just join as needed and interested! The group names are German; here is a small selection:

  • Community-Ankündigungen (announcements): Everything important – from updates on new events to short-notice changes. This group is purely informative, so nobody misses anything.
  • Brettgeplauder (board game chat): The main group for everyone who cannot get enough of board games. Discuss games, celebrate your best moves or just share funny board game memes.
  • BGmuc Events: Everything about our board game meetups. Who brings what? Who explains the rules? When do we start “Gloomhaven”? Everything about the meetups comes up here – organisation becomes child’s play.
  • Schätze und Schrullen (treasures and quirks): The local flea market for board games and accessories. Please note: only offers from Munich and the surrounding area – nationwide offers already exist in other groups and classifieds. Our meetups are of course also good for handovers.
  • Mitspieler gesucht (players wanted): You have the perfect game in mind but no players? Here you will find like-minded people who want to play exactly the same game.
  • Was ist sonst noch los? (what else is going on?): Everything about other game meetups and events in Munich and the surrounding area. Tips and links to other events are very welcome. And yes, we also have a calendar for all known board game events!
  • Taktische Tupfer & (3D)-Print and Pimp: Anything is better than a grey miniature. For everyone who paints, pimps or crafts game material. Beginner or pro, you can ask for tips or proudly present your artwork.
  • Virtuell Virtuos (virtual virtuoso): If you cannot always be there in person, this group is your rescue! Mostly we play on Board Game Arena (BGA) – for online board game rounds that accept no excuses.
